Życie ks. Józefa Warszaskiego to przykład biografii człowieka, który był jednocześnie kapłanem, uczonym, ale i żołnierzem. Walczył w podczas II Wojny Światowej w ruchu oporu i w Powstaniu Warszawskim. Był także profesorem Gregorianum i kierownikiem polskiej sekcji Radia Watykańskiego.
Wbrew pozorom i znaczeniu jakie przypisuje się pojęciu - uniwersalizm, jest ono dość wieloznaczne, albo raczej różne koncepcje religijne i filozoficzne przypisują mu odmienne znaczenie. Każda z tych koncepcji uważa, że to właśnie jej ujęcie uniwersalizmu jest jedyne i właściwe. Uniwersalizm ks. Warszawskiego jest przesiąknięty optyką katolicką, można więc uznać go za uniwersalizm katolicki. Ma to swoje dobre i złe strony. Ukazuje niedostatki społecznego indywidualizmu, jaki dominuje w życiu współczesnej Europy, jak również braki instytucji państwowych, które starają się ów indywidualizm ograniczyć. Warszawski, jak wielu innych myślicieli katolickich, odwołuje się do chrześcijańskich fundamentów kultury europejskiej. Zapomina przy tym, że Europa to nie tylko chrześcijaństwo i wiele ze swego dorobku zawdzięcza także innym ruchom religijnym i społecznym, które przez wieki stały w opozycji do filozofii i instytucji katolickich.
Jeśli studiuje się europejską myśl filozoficzną, nie można pominąć Uniwersalizmu Józefa Warszawskiego. Książka, mimo swoich niedostatków, zawiera sporo ciekawych rozważań filozoficznych, które mogą rzucić światło na współczesne życie społeczne i polityczne oraz koncepcje filozoficzne, które stoją u podstaw ideologii niektórych partii i ruchów społecznych.
