Kraszewski jest pisarzem, którego twórczość skierowana jest do młodszych odbiorców. Dość dowolnie korzysta z materiałów historycznych, ale potrafi zbudować ciekawą fabułę i wykreować pozytywnych bohaterów, których los nie jest obojętny czytelnikowi.
Robin Hood był średniowiecznym bohaterem ludowym, o którym w zasadzie nie zachowały się prawie żadne sprawdzone informacje. Przetrwał jako barwna postać ludowych podań wielokrotnie spisywanych i ekranizowanych. Tadeusz Kraszwski stworzył własną wersję legendy o obrońcy ubogich. Nie ona zbyt wiele wspólnego z większością typowych ludowych wątków. nawet najbardziej znane postacie jego przyjaciół i towarzyszy tutaj nie występują. Niektóre z tych postaci zostały przekształcone i otrzymały nowe imiona. Robin Hood zostaje zwycięzcą turnieju łuczników, nagrodę wręcza mu piękna hrabina. Na skutek doznanych osobiście krzywd oraz uciemiężenia doświadczanego przez saską ludność, Robin podejmuje nierówną walkę z normandzkimi zdobywcami.
Książka lekka i przyjemna. Polecam ją zwłaszcza nastoletnim czytelnikom spragnionym opisów przygód.
