Renegat jest kontynuacją Nocarza – książki, w której czytelnik mógł poznać pierwsze kroki w wampirzej karierze Vespera. O ile Nocarza określiłbym jako książkę dobrą, to Renegat jest dziełem bardzo dobrym. Za skomplikowaną fabułą i momentami szybką akcją, kryje się złożona analiza psychologiczna bohaterów. Proszę się jednak nie zrażać, wartka akcja nic na tym nie traci, a zetknięcie Vespera ze światem renegatów, uświadamia mu, iż nic nie jest takie proste jak się z pozoru wydawało. Niełatwo odróżnić dobro od zła. Komu właściwie powinien pozostać lojalny? Czy szybka kariera w szeregach dotychczasowym wrogów wystarczy by zapomnieć o złożonej przysiędze? Wielka polityka w wydaniu wampirów bywa nie mnie skomplikowana od tej ludzkiej. Kto w tym wszystkim ma naprawdę rację? Jedyną wadą tej książki (jeśli można mówić o jakichś wadach) jest to, że bardzo rzadko pojawia się Okruszek i brakuje wnoszonych przez niego elementów humorystycznych.
Książkę przeczytałem w jeden wieczór. Znalazły się w niej takie momenty, od których trudno się było oderwać. Miłośnicy dobrej fantastyki w rodzimym wydaniu na pewno docenią tę pozycję. Jednak uprzedzam - by zrozumieć co dzieje się w Renegacie trzeba najpierw przeczytać Nocarza!
