Niewątpliwie dystrybucje oparte na jądrze Linuxa przodują w rozwiązaniach sieciowych. To na nich działa większość serwerów. Znajdują także coraz więcej zwolenników, jeśli chodzi o obsługę komputerów domowych oraz biurowych. Ich podstawowym atutem jest bezpieczeństwo i praktycznie całkowity brak podatności na wirusy. O ile instalacja danej dystrybucji w warunkach domowych nie wymaga już dziś zbyt wielkiej wiedzy, to jednak administrowanie serwerem ciągle stawia poważne wymagania. Dotyczy to przede wszystkim właściwej konfiguracji dostępu i wszystkich spraw związanych z bezpieczeństwem.
Osobiście nie zajmuję się administracją sieci, jednak od wielu lat jestem użytkownikiem Linuxa i niejako jego „administratorem” na własnym komputerze, oraz na komputerach kilku znajomych. Mając za sobą te doświadczenia, mogę stwierdzić, że książka jest bardzo dobrym przewodnikiem dla osób pragnących zająć się administracją w oparciu o różne dystrybucja Linuxa. Jej dodatkowym atutem jest przystępny język, w jakim została napisana.

Moim zdaniem książka plasuje się poniżej przeciętnej. Na ponad tysiąc stron 3/4 to informacje zupełnie zbędne, dziwnie wyjaśnione. Z rzeczy praktycznych wygląda to tak: “zakładamy, że masz …. … … …(tu dużo wymagań). Zacznijmy konfigurację”. Oczywiście wcześniej nie pisał autor dokładnie co to jest (chodzi o te wymagania), jak się to instaluje itd. Autor opisuje zasadę działania czegoś a potem podaje jeden przykład mało zrozumiany. Żałuję wydanych 130 zł. Na pewno nie jest tyle warta ta książka. Nie polecam.
