Istota socjologii to podręcznik dla studentów i dla tych wszystkich, którzy pragną pogłębić swoją wiedzę z zakresu socjologii. Nie jest to jednak typowy podręcznik akademicki o monotonnej formie wywodu i pisany niezrozumiałym dla laika językiem. Wręcz przeciwnie. Autor stara się używać języka zrozumiałego, a swój wykład wspiera licznymi przykładami, które często zawierają elementy humorystyczne. Taka forma pozwala w łatwy i przyjemny sposób zrozumieć problematykę z jaką zmaga się współczesna socjologia. Ukazuje mechanizmy działające wewnątrz grup społecznych oraz procesy zmian społecznych jakie ciągle zachodzą. Uświadamia czym jest tożsamość grupowa oraz wskazuje na jej dobre i złe strony.
Muszę przyznać, że książka ta w znacznym stopniu wzbogaciła moja wiedzę i pomogła zrozumieć niektóre zjawiska jakie zachodzą w świecie i wokół mnie. Polecam ją jako inteligentną i interesującą lekturę.
