Graham Masterton jest jednym z najpopularniejszych współczesnych autorów horrorów i thrillerów. Oprócz tego pisał również poradniki erotyczne oraz powieści historyczne. Napisał także kilka opowiadań dla dzieci.
Jeśli określenie „epatuje okrucieństwem” nadaje się do opisu jakiejś książki, to zdecydowanie będzie nią powieść Bezsenni. Na pozór zwykły wypadek helikoptera przeradza się w krwawą jatkę i obcinanie kończyn oraz głów specjalnym narzędziem do cięcia blachy. To jednak dopiero przedsmak. Im dalej, tym opisy stają się bardziej makabryczne. Wszędzie pojawiają się dziwne postacie o bladych twarzach. Obywają się bez snu, lecz żywią ludzką adrenaliną wysysaną wprost z nadnerczy. Kiedy człowiek produkuje najwięcej adrenaliny? Gdy jest przerażony, gdy zadaje mu się potworny ból. Jeśli więc czytamy tę książkę, to na pewno podwyższy się również nam poziom adrenaliny. Warto więc sprawdzić, czy drzwi i oka są dobrze zamknięte, bo właśnie stanowimy łakomy kąsek dla ludzi o bladych twarzach, choć jeśli się zjawią… to takie zabezpieczenia nie przydadzą się na nic.
Muszę przyznać, że nie polecam tej książki wszystkim. Powinny ją czytać tylko osoby o mocnych nerwach, choć przypuszczam, że miłośnicy prozy Mastertona wiedzą czego mogą się spodziewać po jego książkach.
